The scope of the survey

The statistics include sea-going vessels with a gross tonnage of at least 20 that call at Swedish ports to unload / load goods or to debark / embark passengers. Transit traffic, which runs on Swedish waters without calling at Sweden, is thus not included.

Interregional passenger traffic is included, but occurs mainly to and from Gotland. Archipelago traffic calls are not included in the population. The regional scheduled public transport provided by the Public transport authorities (PTA) is thus not covered by the current delimitations. Freight transport by inland waterways in Sweden is included and reported separately in separate tables in the annual statistics.

For reasons of confidentiality, only a very limited number of data are reported in detail per port, instead geographical areas are used.

Publication

Shipping goods is published electronically five times a year, in tables in Excel format and in the database. In the database, users can select statistics of interest themselves and download it in various formats, as well as display it in diagrams. The statistics are also available as open data that can be accessed via an API.

The quarterly statistics are preliminary and can be revised in the coming quarters. The quarterly statistics contain a smaller number of data than the annual statistics. The annual statistics also contain a summary of the most important results in the form of statistics explained. The quarterly statistics are published up to 3 months after the reference quarter, the more detailed annual statistics just over a month later.

All users are advised to always obtain their information from the most recently published statistics, even for previous periods. This is because, as a rule, any changes are not made in older publications.
